Cost Savings Task Force 2020-2021

Parents and Community Members,

At the end of August, Governor Gordon asked school districts to voluntarily make 10% cuts due to a projected $500 million shortfall for K-12 education. Then on September 30, 2020, the Select Committee on School Finance Recalibration sent out a letter requesting feedback from Wyoming school district boards of trustees, districts, and communities on what impact the K-12 education budget gap would have on school district operations. We would not be immune to these deficits or further cuts. What effects would a 10% budget cut have on Sweetwater County School District Number One? In recognizing the challenges ahead regarding the financial condition of the State of Wyoming and District, a Cost Savings Task Force has been formed as an advisory committee to the Superintendent and to the Board of Trustees to provide options moving forward. This Task Force is not a decision-making group, but rather a committee to provide recommendations to the District. What do you value in education and what cost saving ideas can you share? Your input will be shared with the Cost Savings Task Force at a later meeting. The first Cost Savings Task Force Meeting was held on October 29, 2020. The beginning of the meeting was not captured simply because the decision to record was made shortly after it started.
Many of you may notice that the majority of the recording shows the wall near the entrance of the board room. When we are going over documents , those documents will show.
When using Google Meeting to record, it is important to share the screen and pin the Swivl view, due to the last minute decision to record we forgot to present in the meeting and pin the screen. We also know that many teachers have run into similar issues, so we intend to record each meeting using different methods shared by the IT department.
